New encoder makes its debut

Keyword Encoder

Following a full year of testing both in laboratory conditions and in the field, Swedish firm Leine & Linde's latest encoder is ready for the market.

The RS 310 (see Plate 5) is a robust incremental encoder with a diameter of 30mm, and has been designed to cope with exacting applications where criticality is a key factor.

Plate 5 Small is beautiful, the new RS 310 encoder

Distributed in the UK by TRW Schaevitz, the RS 310 has a power supply flexibility up to 36Vdc, IP67 protection level and heavy-duty shaft bearings in relation to its size.

Designed for use in the textile and forestry industries, the RS 310 has a virtually unbreakable code disk of acrylic glass and short-circuit protected outputs.

Les Brown, sales and marketing manager for Slough-based Schaevitz said: "This is an exciting new product and one that we will be looking to actively promote throughout the UK.

"The extremely high degree of specifications will ensure that it finds a successful position in the market."

Although compact in size, the RS 310 has an internal diagnostic system capable of sending an alarm through the status output for the following parameters:

  • Low signal amplitude from the optics.

  • Defective light control in the optics.

  • Low internal 5V level.

Mr Brown added: "Should any of these parameters reach a critically low level, the encoder can still function, albeit at a lower performance level – this helps the customer perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting, adding value to the product."
