High performance motors – third of the size

Keyword Motors

The new Tamagawa Seiki AC motors pack the same power as conventional models in housings that are on average a third of the size (see Plate 10). Six basic sizes complete the range with flange sizes from 28mm to 220mm; the smallest is capable of generating an impressive 15W of power. At the other end of the scale, the largest models have a power rating ranging from 0.6 kW (rated torque of 2.84 Nm) to 7.5 kW (rated torque of 35.77 Nm).

High speed rotation is characteristic of the range; maximum rotation for size 28 is 5,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm for size 220. Most models can be supplied with either a brushless resolver or an in-built high accuracy encoder – incremental or absolute 17 bit single turn/33 bit multi-turn. To save cost and assembly time, encoders requiring fewer wires are used ("less wire" types). The addition of a brake is another option.

Tamagawa Seiki is one of Asia's leading manufacturers of engineering components. As it manufactures motors, encoders, resolvers and brakes, all the elements of the AC motor package are guaranteed to be compatible and integrated for optimum performance. For the same reason, Tamagawa prices are highly competitive. Short lead times and reliable delivery are further benefits.

This AC motor design was primarily developed with the semiconductor manufacturing market in mind. However the high speed and precision requirements of this industry are equally applicable to other sectors. Accordingly, the new Tamagawa motors are also ideally suited to applications involving robotics, machine tools, packaging machinery, measurement equipment and medical instrumentation.
