ABB introduces advanced conveyor tracking for industrial robots

ABB, the global technology company and leader in robot-based automation, has introduced a new, advanced conveyor tracking feature to its range of industrial robots.

Conveyor tracking has been specially designed to work with robot-equipped production lines that have parts on a moving conveyor. It ensures that robot programs are executed correctly and accurately on-the-fly regardless of how the conveyor moves (see Plate 8).

Conveyor tracking works with both linear and circular conveyors or even two conveyors connected simultaneously. It also supports robots mounted on a parallel track motion.

In addition to new installations the feature can be easily integrated into existing facilities utilizing existing conveyors which are not controlled by the robot.

With a conveyor speed of 350mm/s, the Tool Point Centre of the robot will stay accurate to within +/-2mm of the path programmed with no conveyor motion. And because the conveyor tracking works independently of the conveyor speed, accuracy will be consistent.

The feature is designed to enable fast installation and reliable operation of projects in applications such as picking, packing, painting, coating and materials handling.
