IDM Electronics has extended its H Series of slip-ring assemblies with the launch of a compact fibre optic rotating joint. Available with either six 6A circuits or 18 2A circuits, the fibre optic H18 FORJ is a cost-effective solution for applications requiring high quality video and digital signals (Plate 6).

In response to customer demand, the innovative H18/FORJ has been designed for robotic and military applications that need high-speed data transfer as well as conventional optical signal and power. Used for transferring large amounts of information through a rotational interface, fibre optic joints produce little interference and are particularly useful in hazardous environments. The latest addition to the popular H Series is suitable for high data rate transmission of up to 2.5 GB/s.

Ideal for retrofit projects and upgrades, it measures only 87.7 mm long and can be easily mounted using the 5.5 mm diameter holes in the flange. The rugged assemblies can be used at temperatures from −20 to +60°C and provide a maximum speed of up to 500 rpm.
