Applied Computing and Engineering and Adept Technology announce strategic alliance for 3D factory simulation software

Keywords: Adept technology, Robotics

Adept Technology, Inc. a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the automotive, telecommunications, electronics, fibre optic, semiconductor and life sciences industries, today announced a strategic alliance with Applied Computing and Engineering for 3D factory simulation software. AC&E will provide Adept customers with software enhancements and direct support for Adept Digital Workcell, CimStation Robotics, and Production PILOT software products. The alliance provides enhanced features and support for Adept Digital Workcell, CimStation Robotics and Production PILOT software.

“This strategic alliance combines the strength of Adept's automation hardware and controls expertise with AC&E's expertise in simulation software development and support,” said John Dulchinos, vice-president of sales for Adept Technology. “Together, Adept and AC&E will continue to pioneer key simulation technologies for designing, programming, and optimizing factory automation, furthering our vision of rapid deployment automation.”

“AC&E has worked closely with Adept since 1989, and this partnership further validates the success of our relationship,” said Yash Khandhia, technical director of Applied Computing and Engineering. “We have always recognized the strength of Adept's simulation products, and look forward to building on them to deliver the next generation of these proven software products to Adept customers, together with the world-class customer support for which AC&E is best known” (Plate 1).

Adept Digital Workcell and CimStation Robotics are powerful simulation and off-line programming applications that allow customers to build high-fidelity 3D simulation models of their robot work cells, and test the virtual robots for cycle time, reach, and clearance while generating final programs for the robots. These simulation tools allow customers to dramatically reduce the number of hardware design iterations and engineering change orders, slashing the time it takes to concept and implement robot automation.

Adept Digital Workcell is ideal for discrete assembly, material handling, packaging and pick-and-place applications in a wide range of industries. CimStation Robotics is a powerful tool for robotic spot welding and painting applications, as well as for general robot simulation and design, and is popular in the automotive industry.

Production PILOT is a unique suite of simulation products that spans the entire product life cycle, from evaluating early-stage product designs for ease of assembly, to assessing manufacturing processes and factory flow, to final lay out and programming of detailed factory automation. Production PILOT introduces manufacturing considerations into the earliest stages of product design where total product cost can be most influenced, giving manufacturers a strategic advantage by saving both time and money when bringing new products to market.
