ABB, introduces the IRB 260 – a powerful new top loading robot with compact dimensions, large payload and high top speed, specifically designed for packaging applications (Plate 3).

Based on the IRB 2400, an already proven and reliable robot, the IRB 260 uses the same ABB motion control in combination with conveyor tracking and vision technology to provide the ideal packaging unit.

The IRB 260 is designed for easy integration into new or existing packaging lines, with the ability to reach close to its base for extra manoeuvrability and space saving.

Lightweight and compact, the IRB 260 fits easily into small production cells, while its working range is optimised for an 800 mm3 envelope, making the new robot ideal for packaging applications.

Like all ABB packing robots, the IRB 260 can be combined with PickMaster – ABB's innovative packaging software that makes packaging applications easy to integrate and easy to work with, while the four-axis configuration enables the robot to work while tracking moving conveyors.

The IRB 260's lightweight construction is optimised for speed and payload due to a combination of aluminium upper arm, four axis design and parallel rod system.

Additionally, the robot's exceptional reach of 1.56 m, plus its optional availability with IP 67 protection, make it perfect for hygienic applications, such as food handling.

Packing cycle rate for small-box packing is 60 cycles per minute at 10kg payload, while for larger product and boxes, the IRB 260 packs at 40 cycles per minute at 20 kg payload.

The packing work range of the IRB 260 is large enough for all major packing operations, while the maximum payload of 30 kg is high enough for more than 85 per cent of all packing applications, including bread, dairy products, meat and confectionery.
