Title: Process and robotic assembly to shape automotive sheet metal body panels advancing under pressure from bevelled wheelsApplicant: Daimler Chrysler AG (DE)Patent number: DE102005012310Publication date: 12 October 2006

In a process to shape automotive body panels an industrial robot has an arm terminating in a bevelled wheel that is presented to the L-shaped outer margin of a sheet steel panel placed on a moving bed. In a first stage, the bevelled wheel is applied to the exposed outer edge and rotates as the bed advances the sheet metal, bending the exposed edge in stages through 908 to where the exposed edge is folded flat against the main body of the panel. Also claimed is a suitable robotic tool with one or two bevelled wheels, presented in line but with the bevelled faces facing in opposite directions and completing the bending operation in two sweeps.

Title: Robotic lift arm with retractable lifting pin and position sensor for, e.g. automotive assembly lineApplicant: Daimler Chrysler AG (DE)Patent number: DE102005009180Publication date: 7 September 2006

An industrial robot used, e.g. in automotive assembly has a lifting arm terminating in a retractable pick-up pin. The pin assembly has a sensor projecting beyond the maximum point of pin extension. If the sensor makes contact with an object, the assembly stops pin extension and further operation before the pin comes into contact with the component about to be manipulated.

Title: Method and apparatus for evaluating a component pick action in an electronics assembly machineApplicant: Cyberoptics Corp (US); Case Steven K (US); Konicek John P (US); Duquette David W (US); Rudd Eric P (US); Manickam Swaminathan (US)Patent number: WO2006125102Publication date: 23 November 2006

An electronics assembly apparatus with improved pick evaluation is provided. The apparatus includes a placement head having at least one nozzle for releasably picking up and holding a component. A robotic system is provided for generating relative movement between the placement head and a workpiece, such as a circuit board. An image acquisition system is disposed to obtain at least one before- pick image of a component pick up location and at least one after-pick image of the component pick up location. The before-pick image contains a plurality of image portions, having each image portion view the pick-up location from a different point of view, while the after- pick image contains a plurality of image portions, having each image portion view the pick-up location from a different point of view.

Title: Gripper with parts ejector systemApplicant: Seagate Technology LLC (US)Patent number: US2006265866Publication date: 30 November 2006

A robotic tool picks and places a clinging part in an assembly. Two gripper jaws each have gripper fingers spaced apart from each other by a central spacing. The gripper jaws are movable between a grip position and a release position. The robotic tool also has an ejector. The ejector has a part pusher that is cling resistant and movable in the central spacings between a retracted position, and an eject position in which the cling resistant part pusher ejects the clinging part.
