KUKA Robotics selected by Nercon Engineering and Manufacturing, Inc. to provide robotics for mixed product palletizing and order picking applications

KUKA Robotics Corporation, has announced it has been selected by Nercon Engineering and Manufacturing, Inc. as its robotics supplier for its new mixed product palletizing and order picking systems. Nercon, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, will use the KUKA KR 180 PA palletizing robot in its new system (Figure 2) to load and unload mixed product from a tri-level accumulating conveyor system. The KUKA KR 40 robot will be used in the company's new order picking cell. Both systems, which were recently showcased at PackExpo in Chicago, are designed to increase customer's efficiency by streamlining production.

The KUKA KR 180 PA robot is designed especially for high-speed tasks with heavy payloads. The robot's arm is made of carbon fiber composite materials which makes it extremely light, without sacrificing stiffness and its FEM optimized kinematics have been adapted for palletizing. The KUKA KR 180 PA is a four-axis robot with a 3,200mm reach and capable of handling up to a 180kg payload. The KUKA KR 40 PA four-axis robot arm is also made of carbon fiber composite materials, is capable of handling up to a 40kg payload and has a 2,091mm reach. Its unique work envelope enables it to be used in high-speed conveyor-tracking material handling applications as well as homogenous and mixed palletizing applications.
