In this CLAWAR News item, we would like to focus on the Membership of the Association and the resulting benefits to individuals and companies alike.

There are three classes of membership available in the association and these are; member, student member and corporate member. Members, and corporate members, can be elected to hold office in running the activities of the association. The association also has a board of Trustees and Patrons comprising senior persons with knowledge and experience in a wide range of technical and non-technical sectors who are responsible for formulating the principles of operation of the association and the activities to be carried out to achieve the mission to widen the application base for robotics.

Individuals are encouraged to join the association. Membership is on an annual basis from 1 January each year.

Benefits of becoming a member

Reduced registration fees at CLAWAR conferences, and symposia, workshops, seminars, meetings organised, sponsored by the CLAWAR Association. The next CLAWAR annual conference will be held in Coimbra, Portugal during 08-10 September 2008 (www.isr.uc.pt/clawar2008 for details, also accessed from www.clawar.org/clawar2008).

Members will receive CLAWAR Newsletters free of charge and purchase discounted Emerald publications.

Access to latest information on standardisation activities for service robotics.

Access to research and development reports initiated by other members.

Access to the member's section of the CLAWAR Association web site.

Access to a wide range of organisations and individuals through the CLAWAR association membership directory.

Opportunity to develop networks and promote their work within and through membership of the CLAWAR association.

Members will be able to influence the decisions of the Board of Trustees, Officers, and Committees through a democratic process.

Members can get actively involved and take up positions within the CLAWAR association through democratic elections process.

Members can propose special workshops and seminars through the association.

To apply for membership, please complete a membership application form and forward the completed form to the association secretary either by post or e-mail. You can obtain an application form either by contacting the CLAWAR Association Secretary or you can download the application form from the CLAWAR Association web site.
