Special issue on entrepreneurial behaviour in family businesses

Article Type: Call for papers From: Journal of Enterprising Communities: People and Places in the Global Economy, Volume 2, Issue 4

The International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research aims to provide a wide-ranging forum for inter- disciplinary discussion and information exchange on entrepreneurship-related topics, with the aim of advancing both conceptual development and application of empirical methodologies, leading to an improvement in our understanding of entrepreneurial behaviour.

Recognizing the importance of family businesses and the unique nature of organizations that are part business, part family and part family business, this call for papers invites submissions for a Special Issue entitled ``Entrepreneurial behaviour in family businesses'', to be guest-edited by Claire Seaman, Stuart Graham and Richard Bent from the School of Business, Enterprise and Management at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. Manuscripts are especially welcome in areas such as:

  • Family business start-ups and entrepreneurship

  • Development and business growth within the family environment

  • Marketing the family business

  • Family business development in established and new migrant communities

  • The role of education in family business development

  • The interaction of family businesses with business support services

  • The impact of family businesses on regional economic development

  • Succession planning in family businesses

  • The public sector and its role within family business, development, behaviour and success

  • Communication and behaviour within the family business.

Given the diverse nature of family business in its UK and global context, it is likely that researchers are working in areas not specified above, i.e. case studies or other forms of analytical research. The Guest Editors would be very keen to consider such manuscripts. Manuscripts must be submitted by 31 December 2008 (for publication in 2010) to Claire Seaman: cseaman@qmu.ac.uk

The submission deadline for all papers is 31 December 2008

Purpose and submission criteria

In keeping with the spirit of the Journal, the purpose of this Special Issue is to provide a forum for interaction of ideas between practitioners, businesses and academicians on subjects associated with the start-up, development, growth and survival of family businesses. The best submissions are those that address a compelling issue of importance to family businesses, where the unique nature of a family business contributes to the most appropriate course of action, developed within a strong theoretical framework and where the practical implications are clearly visible. In addition, the papers will be evaluated based on innovativeness of research ideas, technical competence, and quality of methodology and clarity of expression.
