It is with a great pleasure that I welcome you the second issue of the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology (JHTT). We were very happy to present the readers the inaugural issue in March of 2010. I have received much positive feedback. Scholars were impressed with the quality of the submissions. I have also heard from industry colleagues that they have read research that they can use in their jobs. This was the goal of JHTT: to close the gap between academics and industry in an environment that welcomes applied research in the field of tourism and hospitality technology.

Technology is a fast paced field. As the Editor of JHTT, I am dedicated to a fast and quality review process that will encourage even most time-sensitive topics to appear in JHTT. One of the decisions we made as Emerald Team is to include JHTT in the Emerald EarlyCite. This will ensure that papers will be made available at least three months before they appear in the hard copy and final online journal issue. The papers that appeared in the first issue were first presented on the Emerald web site in December 2009. The hard copy of the journal was published in March 2010. This allowed and allows researchers to access these research studies much quicker.

I am happy to present you with five excellent refereed papers in this issue along with an industry insight. The first paper provides “A conceptual framework of relationship commitment: e-travel agencies” by Khaldoon “Khal” Nusair, Nan Hua and Xu Li. The second paper presents “Location aware auctions for tourism services” by Charis Marentakis and Dimitrios Emiris. The third paper tackles “The role of information technology in relationships between travel agencies and their suppliers” by Maria-Eugenia Ruiz-Molina, Irene Gil-Saura and Beatriz Moliner-Velázquez. The fourth paper is entitled as “Automatic knowledge exchanging between tourists via mobile devices” by Christos Tatsiopoulos and Basilis Boutsinas. The fifth paper presents “The effect of knowledge management resource inputs on organizational effectiveness in the restaurant industry” by Yong Joong Kim and Murat Hancer.

In this issue, we also present you an industry insight. The first “Industry insight” is written by Joe McInerney, the Chief Executive Officer of American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA). In this insight, Mr McInerney takes us from the early days of AH&LA to the present time. In this paper, you will find several great research ideas not only for potential papers in JHTT, but also in many other hospitality and tourism journals. We plan to continue to present industry insights in the future issues. They will help us build the bridge between academia and industry.

I hope the readers of this journal will help us by spreading the word of JHTT to others and citing papers that are published in JHTT. Please submit a paper to JHTT. Encourage an industry professional to write an insight for JHTT.

Enjoy this wonderful issue of JHTT.
