UK test providers including names such as Saville & Holdsworth, ASE and OPP will be able to see how their test fared in the second independent review of ability and aptitude tests.

Review of Ability and Aptitude Tests (Level A) for use in Occupational Settings provides the first comprehensive description and evaluation of 45 ability and aptitude tests and updated assessments of 17 similar tests from the previous volume. Teach test is given a star rating in terms of reliability, validity and ease of administration. The Review of Ability and Aptitude Tests indicates that tests vary widely in terms of the required criteria with some tests being rated fairly low by the independent reviewers.

The review is designed to help people choose tests (which are expensive to buy) and hope it will provide a fair guidance on which tests are most suitable to their needs. Obviously standards in testing rely not only on the test administrator but the choice of test and test itself.

This is just part of the continued efforts to promote good test practice. The BPS already has established standards in testing with its Certificates of Competence in Occupational Testing (Level A and B). The Society already publishes the Review of Personality Assessment Instruments (Level B) which reviews 30 tests including 15FQ, 16PF, API, MBTI and OPP.
