This publication is a welcome addition to the growing literature on workplace stress. A thorough introductory chapter outlines the “growing epidemic of stress”, making good use of well‐established research. For the more experienced practitioner in stress management, it is recommended that they dip into this particular chapter for relevant examples. For new managers or students, this chapter provides an invaluable introduction. The remainder of the book takes a novel approach to managing stress, dealing with the more specific issues which affect individuals while at work. For example, “dealing with interruptions, coping with everyday hassles in using new technology, managing the stress of work travel, making presentations, tolerating ineffective or debilitating meetings etc.” are just some of the areas covered. By using practical scenarios, possible techniques and ways of dealing with such problems are clearly illustrated.

Well referenced, this book would be of particular interest to human resource professionals, organisational change consultants, and students in the areas of management studies, human resources, industrial psychology, public administration, and social and personality psychology.
