Death of Dr Heinz von Foerster
An announcement of the death of Dr Heinz von Foerster at his home in Pescadero, California USA, on the 2nd October 2002, at the age of 90, has been received as we publish this issue.
Both he and Stafford Beer were great friends and each admired the contribution to cybernetics and systems of the others.
His friends refer not only to his “towering intellect and professional work but also to his passionate engagement in making the world a better place...”
We join his family in their mourning and express our sadness at his passing. Further tributes to the work of this celebrated cybernetician and systemist will be published in future issues of this journal.
