Focus on the net

BetterManagement.comhttp://www.bettermanagement.com

A leading performance management portal, offers analysis of selected topics aimed at improvement in organizational performance, including business intelligence, value-based management, profitability analysis, strategic enterprise management and performance scorecarding. A large proportion of the site's information is presented under "authorities" or chapters, each containing several feature articles, presentations, case studies, white papers, a discussion forum (registration required) and an audio feature entitled "Management Minute". Many of these audio features are progressive segments in a series and, while not as addictive as a soap opera, still leave the visitor eager for next week's instalment. Quick and simple registration will initiate a regular e-mail newsletter service. Also provides a modest but relevant list of Web sites.

Australian Continuous Improvement Groupwww.acig.com.au

A leading-edge consultancy, offers services in strategy and business planning, improvement of operational effectiveness, performance monitoring, and commercialization and corporatization assistance for government bodies and developing countries. ACIG publishes an online best practice newsletter which details its most recent assignments and current involvements. Makes available for browsing and viewing a large number of PDF articles on topics such as benchmarking, continuous improvement and performance measurement across diverse and somewhat unexpected industries and countries, many of which can be keyword searched. Needs to expand on its links to allied sites but, overall, an excellent resource.

The Business Publications Search Enginewww.bpubs.com/Management_Science/Change_Management

A directory-based search engine, trades the common Web site accoutrements of a home page and index for faster information retrieval for visitors. Broadly aimed at senior management level, it would also adequately serve the needs of business school academics with its insights on change management and organizational transformation. Offers a stream of fairly current high-quality, full-text articles, linked back to their original e-zine sources. Features a keyword search in addition to browsing, while "New pubs" at the general homepage gives access to the most recent additions to the site. Few sites are easier or more effective to use.

eKnowledge Centerwww.eknowledgecenter.com

Aims to unite professionals in the areas of innovation, knowledge management and intellectual capital, and offers access to certification programmes, networks of experts and knowledge resources. Also enables practitioners to keep up to date with the latest in research, trends, news and employment opportunities. Industry updates are by way of the centre's e-mail newsletter and full-text articles from knowledge management practitioners. An intellectual capital "exchange" creates a business-to-business exchange of knowledge management services. Visitors do not have to be certified knowledge management professionals to be allowed access to a pertinent list of online articles, although it is clear that membership of the site, through certification, affords an additional layer of professional development and support.
