are the recipients of the Award for Excellence for their paper

"The corporate strategic - operational divide and TQM"

which appeared in Measuring Business Excellence, Vol. 6 No. 1, 2002

Denis Leonard* has degrees in engineering and education in addition to an MBA and Ph.D. in quality management. Denis is a Member of the UK Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA) and a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) with whom he is a Certified Quality Manager and Auditor. He was an Assessor on the Northern Ireland Quality Award (European Quality Award aligned) and Examiner and Editor on the Wisconsin Forward (Baldrige aligned). A former Professor of Quality at the University of Wisconsin he has published widely and won numerous research awards. He is a member of several boards including the U.S. (ANSI) Standards Group for Quality Assurance and ASQ’s Quality Press and Quality Management Forum Editorial Boards. With experience in engineering, training, auditing and consulting he is currently Manager of Quality Systems with the Rayovac Corporation in Madison Wisconsin, USA.

Dr Rodney McAdam is a Reader in Management at the Faculty of Business and Management, University of Ulster. Rodney has recently received The Distinguished Research Fellowship Award from the University of Ulster. He has a large number of publications (100) in area of Knowledge, Innovation, Quality Management, and Business Improvement. He is a regular conference speaker at International conferences and supervises a number of PhD students in the area of Knowledge, Quality and organizational change management. He has extensive consulting experience in leading public and private sector organizations throughout the UK and Europe. Before joining the university he worked in the aerospace industry.
