Norwegians worry over climate change impacts

Article Type: News From: Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, Volume 21, Issue 1

Transport, tourism, aquaculture and construction are among the main Norwegian sectors that must urgently prepare to cope with climate change, according to a new report by the Climate Adaptation Committee, an expert panel.

The construction industry in particular is already facing a “major challenge” as companies and planning authorities struggle to reconcile centralised design standards with “large climatic differences from region to region”, the committee says. The analysis assumes a “moderate” rise in temperature. In many areas, drinking water sources have been contaminated by sewage after flooding, highlighting the need for technical upgrades which will be “expensive and resource intensive”.
