Czech Republic adopts sustainable development strategy

Article Type: News From: Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, Volume 21, Issue 3

The Czech Government has recently approved a new strategic framework laying down the principles for the country’s sustainable development. It was described by an environment ministry official as an “umbrella document” for all Czech policy papers.

Reducing the impact of extreme weather conditions on forests and agricultural areas, improving water retention and guaranteeing sufficient freshwater supplies are among key objectives to tackle climate change, according to the strategic framework. Other priorities in the document include protecting the countryside to stop biodiversity loss, streamlining land use rules to slow the loss of open and undeveloped areas and promoting environmentally-friendly agriculture.
