Dear Readers,

This special issue of Managerial Finance is dedicated to some of the best papers presented at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Finance, Chicago, Illinois, USA, April 1-3, 2008.

The Academy of Finance was formed in 1987 under the administrative umbrella of the Midwest Business Administration Association. Over the years, the Academy has grown and prospered, attracting authors from 42 states and over ten different countries. The 2008 Program contained 118 papers and a number of panels and special sessions.

In addition to the papers, panels and sessions mentioned above, the Academy offers Best in Track Awards for the best papers in the following areas of finance: corporate, investments, institutions, global issues, real estate, insurance and risk management, financial education and special topics. Further, the Academy presents distinguished paper award to the best paper presented at that year's conference. Originally sponsored by Irwin, the award is now known as the McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Paper Award. The Academy also recognizes and supports high quality teaching by giving an Outstanding Teaching Award each year. The Distinguished Luncheon Speaker series of the Academy invites highly accomplished individuals from academe and practice to establish interactions with the conference participants. Finally, the Academy sponsors an academic journal, the Journal of the Academy of Finance (JAF). For more information about the Academy of Finance, please visit our website, //www.hcob.wmich.edu/aof/.

The papers in this special issue of Managerial Finance underwent a standard double blind, peer-review process where two or more referees reviewed each paper. The Guest Editor, with inputs from JAF Associate Editors, made the final selections. I hope you will enjoy them.
