Nutrition training for primary school teachers

Nutrition training for primary school teachers

New guidance for teacher trainers on the importance of teaching nutrition to young children has recently been issued by the Department of Health and MAFF. The teaching of food and nutrition is compulsory at Key Stages 1 and 2. If primary teachers cover this with insight and enthusiasm it can be a major boost to health education. The two departments have worked closely with the British Nutrition Foundation to produce Food A Fact of Life, an exciting and colourful resource pack for teachers and their pupils covering nutrition, food production, food processing and food hygiene. For further information about this teaching resource call 0171 238 5603. Copies of Guidance on Food and Nutrition in Primary Teacher Training are available to teachers from The Nutrition Unit, Department of Health, Skipton House, 80 London Road, London SE1 6LW.
