Snack foods

In the last seven years the European snack foods market has increased from under 1 million tonnes to nearly 1.4 million tonnes, equivalent to 2.9 kg per capita. There are a number of key factors driving this market. They include the breakdown of formal family meals, the increase in consumption of foods between meals and increasingly busy lifestyles where consumers look for a quick and convenient snack. The UK remains the largest market with sales of nearly 330,000 tonnes. Germany lags behind with sales of 250,000 tonnes and Spain with 120,000 tonnes. The Dutch are the largest consumers and the lowest consumers are the Italians. This information is provided in a new report from Leatherhead Food RA, The European Snack-food Market, available price £295 to members and £395 to non-members.
