Confectionery exports
A new report from Food from Britain has shown that British confectionery sales have increased by 9 per cent over the last decade and if maintained are forecast to reach £1 billion by the year 2005. The Sweet Report shows that exports have nearly doubled since 1980 and now amount to 271,000 tonnes per annum. This is the equivalent of two 20-tonne lorries heading overseas every hour, every day of the year. The most successful export markets are in North America, France, Germany and The Netherlands but it is hoped to expand trade into Eastern Europe and countries like Brazil and China.
