School milk

School milk

School milk experts from around the world have recently met to discuss how best to promote school milk schemes. The fully EC-funded scheme on school milk requires member states to make available subsidies for whole and semi-skimmed, plain and flavoured milk and unsweetened unflavoured whole milk yogurt. The scheme is available to all children attending primary and nursery schools. Although the provision of the scheme by member states is mandatory, participation by schools of local education authorities is on a voluntary basis. Speaking at the conference, Farming Minister, Lord Donoughue, said that the Intervention Board had carried out a survey of all claimants of the subsidy to establish the barriers to providing school milk and to identify ways of simplifying the arrangements.
