Guidance on a range of industry issues relevant to large and small-scale food and drink producers are featured on the Food Standards Agency's new Web site, launched in January.

The site, which aims to help the food drinks industry serve and protect the consumer, contains credible, comprehensive and broad-reaching information on a range of industry hot topics including new EU and UK regulations and labelling issues.

The site reflects the FSA's concerns across the whole industry – from farming and food production, through packaging and distribution, to retail and catering. It addresses safety issues wherever they arise, either on the farm or further down the chain. The FSA also advocates the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system of food safety management – and is taking action to increase the awareness and application of HACCP in UK food businesses.

Information can be found in the Food Industry section of the site and also includes:

  • farming and food policy;

  • meat and meat hygiene;

  • shell fish;

  • alerts;

  • consultations;

  • food labelling issues; and

  • new EU and UK regulations.

The site, which has been designed to be easy to navigate, also provides the consumer with information on areas as diverse as foodstuffs surveillance reports, nutritional and dietary advice, food intolerance and allergies, and advice on pregnancy issues. Users can sign up to daily email alerts and tailored news bulletins and there are weekly themed topics.
