With Landfill laws changing at the end of October, businesses that produce or manage waste will soon have to review how they deal with it. The changes to the rules mean waste must be treated before it can be landfilled. If their waste does go to landfill businesses will have to check to see if it is already being treated and will have to separate recyclables and other materials. These rule changes are just the tip of the iceberg, and business should think carefully about how it deals with its waste with the price escalator on landfill tax kicking in early next year. Currently, a majority of all business waste goes to landfill or incineration meaning either an ever increasing bill, or a bad environmental reputation, or both. From a compliance angle, companies will have to take action based on the rule changes. From an "environmental best practice" angle companies should be seen to be green by disposing of their waste without the use of landfill or incineration.
