Conference reports

More than 1,400 people were in attendance at the KM & Intranets 2005 Conference and Exhibition at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, making the 2005 conference one of the most successful in the show’s history.

Intense growing interest in the field of knowledge management, intranets and portals meant more attendees from across the globe, including a delegation of more than 18 from Japan. Knowledge management has been a priority for many American corporations, but this year leading companies worldwide began to see its relevance to productivity, as growth in this field has increased tremendously in the past several years.

“Enhancing performance and accelerating growth is important to all companies. The continued success of KMWorld & Intranets serves as a testament to its success in teaching people the tools to accomplish these goals”, said Tom Hogan Sr, President of Information Today, Inc.

The opening keynote for the conference by Tom Davenport, “Thinking for a living: keys to knowledge worker productivity”, started off the conference with solutions for KM workers and set the stage for a thought-provoking three-day event where KM workers and leaders from all over converged to delve into the tough questions in the field.

The year 2005 marked the ninth anniversary for KMWorld & Intranets, which hosted over 100 speakers. The exposition hall had a steady flow of traffic all three days, with visitors exploring the latest product and service solutions in the field from top companies in the industry.

The Museums & Heritage Show 2005

The Museums & Heritage Show 2005 was the biggest yet, with nearly 140 suppliers and contractors exhibiting and over 1,500 of the industry’s leading professionals visiting during the two-day event.

Taking place at Earls Court, the Museums & Heritage Show is the UK’s leading industry event, providing an invaluable forum in which industry professionals can research specialist products and services or network with key figures in the museums, galleries and heritage visitor attractions industry.

Demonstrating its commitment to providing museums, galleries and cultural attractions with the most comprehensive information, practical advice and solutions to the key issues facing the industry today, the Show also provided its complete range of seminars and technical presentations completely free of charge, ensuring visitors were able to make the most of their visit.

Continually growing its presence internationally, the Museums & Heritage Show once again saw a significant delegation of overseas visitors from countries varying from France, Germany and Hungary to Australia, Qatar and the USA.

This show also saw the launch of a new Career Zone, designed for those wanting to get the inside track on working in the museums and heritage sector. Created in association with the cultural recruitment specialist CLR Global, the Career Zone proved an extremely popular feature, not only attracting those looking to start a career within the sector but also providing a valuable resource for those looking for their next career move.

The Museums & Heritage Show 2005 visitors received an exclusive and complimentary copy of a major piece of industry research carried out by specialist consultancy Morris, Hargreaves McIntyre on behalf of the Show. “Never Mind the Width, Feel the Quality” examines issues surrounding the data that is routinely collected within the UK’s museums, galleries and cultural attractions and how much of an insight it really provides into the motivations, behaviour, experiences and responses of visitors.

Event Director Anna Preedy commented: “We have been thrilled with the response we have had to the continued development and expansion of the Show, we’ve had extremely positive feedback from both visitors and exhibitors, with many exhibitors suggesting it has provided them with the highest quality of enquiry from any event yet”.
