According to the latest FOCUS Auction Guide Analysis, there has been a large increase of 49 per cent in the total value of all lots sold (including commercial, residential, ground and land) from £714,787,771 in 1996 to £1,061,503,813 in 1997. This was despite the number of auctions being down from 501 to 474.

Allsop and Co. was once again the top auctioneer with a disclosed value of £283,473,345 an increase of 96 per cent on 1996. Royal & SunAlliance Property Services however, offered and sold the most number of lots for that period.

Focusing down a little, the Greater London region showed the highest rise, at 34.23 per cent, in the average value of vacant terraced houses auctioned in 1997. Greater London was followed by the Home Counties at 29.07 per cent, and the Southern at 25.48 per cent. However, Scotland, Tyne Tees, Lancashire and Wales all showed decreases in this category.

The FOCUS Auction Guide is unparalleled as the largest and most comprehensive database of lots offered at auction throughout the UK. It covers auctions held since 1982 and provides information on commercial, residential, land and ground rent lots offered. The database contains over 180,000 records with a current entry rate of 23,000 to 25,000 lots per annum.
