HM Land Registry – annual report and accounts 2000-2001

HM Land Registry Accounts published its Annual Report and Accounts for 2000-2001 in September.

The report shows that over the past year, the Land Registry:

  • Achieved ten out of 12 key performance targets, including all financial targets, against a background of a 6.6 per cent increase in applications.

  • Achieved all three shadow customer service targets with over 99 per cent of customers either very satisfied or satisfied with the full range of services provided.

  • Successfully launched a new online service "Land Registry Direct".

  • Has 96.78 per cent of registers capable of electronic delivery.

In addition, the Quinquennial Review which took place between September 2000 and March 2001 applauded the Land Registry's achievements and set out a bold vision for the future.

Introducing the report, Peter Collis, Chief Land Registrar and Chief Executive, said:

I am delighted that – despite the record levels of business which we handled last year – we were able to improve the quality of our service still further.

He continued:

Our customers seem to agree that we gave them a very good service in 2000-2001; 99.2 per cent of customers were very satisfied or satisfied with the full range of services we provide.

Peter Collis went on to say:

Appropriately for the first year of the new Millennium, 2000-2001 was a year in which we planned and prepared for the future. That future lies in the electronic age, and we are convinced that technology can make buying and selling property much less fraught for the ordinary person. We launched an electronic conveyancing task force to spearhead our drive towards this goal, and worked with the Law Commission to prepare the necessary legislative framework for a modern conveyancing system with registration at its heart.
