HM Land Registry awarded fourth Charter Mark

HM Land Registry awarded fourth Charter Mark

HM Land Registry has been awarded a fourth consecutive Charter Mark for excellence in public service. The Registry is one of only eight organisations to achieve this accolade four times in a row.

The Charter Mark assessors found the organisation to be characterised by experience, enthusiasm and professionalism. They were particularly impressed by:

  • very high levels of service and customer care with sound systems and procedures in place;

  • exceptional commitment of staff at all levels;

  • high quality information for professional bodies and individual customers;

  • good value for money.

Other areas recognised as contributing to the high quality service to customers included:

  • use of technology, particularly Land Registry Direct and the National Land Information Service (NLIS);

  • appointment of a senior committee to action recommendations from the Independent Complaints Reviewer; and

  • developing the IT infrastructure to permit full electronic conveyancing.

Commenting on the 2001 Award, Peter Collis, Chief Land Registrar and Chief Executive, said:

This award shows that the Land Registry's continuing commitment to provide a first class service to its customers is recognised. It reflects the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication of every member of staff.

Only seven other public service organisations have so far shared this achievement and winning again is a splendid tribute to our organisation.

The 2001 Charter Mark award is valid for three years. The Land Registry was awarded its first Charter Mark in 1992 and this was renewed in 1995. It received its third Charter Mark in 1998, in recognition of the continued excellence of its service to the public. First launched in 1992, the Charter Mark initiative remains an integral part of the Government's new "Service first" programme, designed to drive forward improvements in public services.
