"Card-image public access catalogues (CIPACs): an international survey"

which appeared in Program, Vol. 37 No. 2, 2003

Otto C. Oberhauser has spent most of his professional life in computerised library and information services after having obtained the Austrian postgraduate qualification in librarianship, documentation and information in 1980. For the last 12 years he has worked for the Austrian Library Network, the largest consortium of academic and administrative libraries in his country and the bibliographic and operational centre of the national union catalogue. His work is focused on online public access catalogues and Otto is responsible for the technical management of the Austrian national union OPAC and the online catalogues of over 20 local library systems operated by the central office of the network. His previous experience includes years of managing online and information services at the Vienna University of Technology Library, the creation of a specialised library and information service at the (then) newly founded Austrian Environment Agency, the creation and development of a new site library of the University of Vienna, as well as extensive work in subject analysis and classification. He holds a doctorate in communication studies from the University of Vienna, and Master's degrees in information and library studies from the University of Wales, the University of Central England and, most recently, the University of Applied Sciences at Cologne, Germany. He is a Fellow of CILIP and maintains good contacts with a number of colleagues in the UK.
