Keywords Coatings, Polymers

At the Surfex trade-fair held recently at Harrogate, Zeneca Resins showed several products meeting the requirements of the European market. These products have recently been developed in close co-operation with customers in the coatings, adhesives and graphic arts industries utilising, environmentally friendly, mostly water-based technologies:

  • NeoCryl XK-37. New polymer reported to be suitable for anti-bleeding primers and topcoats, and tension-free wall coatings.

  • NeoCryl XK-88. Styrene-acrylic self-crosslinking polymer with alkyd-like gloss level claiming good blocking resistance and good wet adhesion.

  • NeoCryl XK-97. Self-crosslinking pure acrylic polymer believed to have excellent early water and block resistance, suitable for pigmented systems and wood stains.

  • NeoCryl TX-200. A new modified acrylic emulsion with built-in rheology designed for brushable paints, which can be formulated at any desired thixotropy.

  • Further benefits claimed of this product are good open time, good blocking resistance, wet adhesion and compatibility with tinting systems.

  • NeoCryl A-664. Acrylic emulsion for plastic coatings, hi-fi applications, reported to have good adhesion on ABS-PS etc. and good chemical resistances.

  • NeoCryl XK-14. Self-crosslinking and emulsifier free acrylic emulsion with high chemical resistance suitable for furniture lacquers and other wood finishes.

  • NeoPac E-115. Urethane-acrylic copolymer for plastic and industrial wood coatings.

  • NeoPac E-106 and E-125. Aliphatic urethane-acrylic self-crosslinking copolymer claiming excellent wood-wetting properties, high gloss and high abrasion resistance. Suitable for parquet lacquers and other wood-finishes also due to high chemical resistance.

  • NeoCryl XK-85. Small particle size acrylic emulsion with good water resistance and salt spray resistance, said to be suitable for clear and pigmented metal coatings.

  • NeoCryl XK-65. Is an experimental rheology controlled styrene acrylic copolymer emulsion stated to have outstanding salt spray corrosion resistance and excellent high build spraying properties when used in metal primers.

  • NeoCryl XK-82 and NeoCryl XK-64. Acrylic emulsions for metal coatings.

  • NeoCryl A-1100. Cosolvent free and APEO free, specially modified acrylic styrene copolymer designed for high gloss flexo and gravure inks, claiming low odour and good heat-resistance.

  • NeoCryl BT-100. APEO-free , specially modified alkali-soluble copolymer dispersion for flexo printing on paper and board. The resin claims high viscosity at relative low solids content on neutralisation.

  • NeoCryl B-890. Low molecular weight solid acrylic that reportedly shows excellent solubility in ethanol and is said to be compatible with, NC, CAP, PVB and PU resins. The resin is suitable for flexo printing on plastic substrates.

  • NeoRez U-335. As a result of its broad compatibility with other resins and solvents and its flexibility and adhesion properties, this semi-film forming PU resin is believed to be a suitable base resin for formulating flexo and gravure inks for packaging films that can be subsequently glue laminated.

  • NeoRez U-345. Non-reactive aliphatic polyurethane of high molecular weight. The product forms a film with elastomeric properties without blocking tendency. This resin is recommended by Zeneca for use in gravure inks for laminating, featuring quick solvent release and excellent bond strength in a broad variety of applications.

  • NeoRez U-347. Non reactive polyurethane suitable for gravure and flexo printing claiming excellent adhesion on several plastic films, especially on coex and bioriented OPP, PE and aluminium foil.

  • NeoRez R-600. Polyurethane dispersion designed to function as an anchorage primer for acrylic and PVDC top coats onto filmic substrates.

  • NeoRez R-550, NeoRez R-551 and NeoRez R-563 (adhesives). Series of polyurethane dispersions for use as alternatives to solvent based products. These products find use in industrial lamination and contact adhesives for wood-bonding, shoe and automotive market.

Zeneca Resins develops, markets and manufactures water-based and other environmentally friendly products using a wide range of technologies, encompassing acrylics, urethanes, urethane-acrylics, vinyl acrylics and other copolymers for the coatings, adhesives and graphic arts industries.
