Three new 'compliant' coating resins

Three new "compliant" coating resins

Keywords Coatings, Resins

BIP Limited, a major manufacturer of amino-based resins, has developed three new "Beetle" coating resins for use on wood and other heat sensitive substrates. These are high solids resins developed specifically to assist in the formulation of VOC compliant coatings. All three resins are said to be particularly suited to acid catalysed wood lacquers. Their properties are given in Table I.

BE 620 is a high solids, iso-butylated urea formaldehyde resin. Supplied in IMS, it has 75 per cent cured solids, is of medium-to-low viscosity, has very low free formaldehyde and reportedly gives fast cure.

BE 387 is a very high solids 96 per cent methylated urea formaldehyde resin which claims an exceptional solids/viscosity relationship. It is reported to be suitable for both solvent and water-based formulations, is of low viscosity with low free formaldehyde and has a good rate of cure.

BE 630 is a very high solids, n-butylated melamine formaldehyde resin. It is stated to be solvent free with low free formaldehyde and gives good cure response in acid catalysed systems. This resin has been specifically developed for high performance lacquers where BS 6250 severe rating is required.
