More than 50 per cent of Spies Hecker sales in the UK are now generated by the Permahyd waterborne product range.

Since the Environmental Protection Act made it compulsory for larger bodyshops to use lower VOC products in April this year, bodyshops have been seeking refinish systemswhich are not only compliant, but which do not complicate or slow down their productivity.

According to Spies Hecker, it was soon realised that its waterborne system not only fulfilled their legal requirements but actually reduced material consumption and, amazingly, increased throughput and efficiency as well, usually by 20 per cent and sometimes even up to 50 per cent.

National sales manager, John Griffin, says "This is a complex market and it's never an easy sell but selling a product with this performance profile is about as good as it gets!"

Long term user of Spies Hecker's waterborne system, Adrian Clingo, operations supervisor of AMG Bodyline Bodyline in Kings' Lynn, Norfolk says "It is so simple for the painters to get used to. There is less to go wrong with the simple mixing formula of basecoat colour and water. Our painters have proved it to be definitely quicker than traditional two pack systems and the after sales service sold it to us. We couldn't wish for anything better than the Spies Hecker team."

Spies Hecker reports that it is determined to stay ahead in the race for technical excellence. On top of the success of its waterborne system there is already a waterborne clear coat lined up, and indeed the capability to offer a complete waterborne system from primers through to clears.

Marketing manager, Tracey Fisher, says "The waterborne clear coat is the final technological breakthrough in an advanced paint programme and Spies Hecker was there first! The complete Permahyd System is considered the only waterborne refinish system available today in commercial use."
