New Dublin-based Company Orbis Information Systems announces the launch of a new software solution to offer real-time data interchange between laboratories and process.
SM-IP21 has just been launched, to overcome the challenge facing large manufacturing organisations needing to integrate data between softwares. On the one hand, the laboratory is a regulated industry, with traceability and compliance necessary in its management software, and on the other, a production environment requires monitoring, control and management from its software. Moving data between the two can be:

paper-based/manual;
- •
custom-built between applications; or
- •
off-the-shelf using a standard package.
The new SM-IP21 has been designed to bridge the gap between LIMS (laboratory information management systems) and PIMS (process information management systems) and if required, integrate directly into ERP systems such as SAP. SM-IP21 is a standardized solution linking SampleManager from LabSystems and Infoplus 21 from Aspen Technology.
Based on CIM-IO technology from AspenTech, SM-IP21 is a client/server application. It offers a menu-driven interface, and typically allows the user to link table names, field names and criteria. SM-IP21 supports the interchange of all internal LIMS and PIMS data representations i.e. Real, Integer, ASCII and Boolean types are all supported.
The SM-IP21 software has been installed in beta test in Dow Chemicals.
