Industrial coatings manufacturer Firwood Paints (Tel: + 44 (0)1204 525231) informs us that it has more than quadrupled its range of shades overnight with the adoption of the NCS Natural Colour System from Scandinavia (Plate 7).

Firwood considers that this will allow specialist high performance industrial paints to be offered with at least the range of shades now available at the top end of the retail domestic paints market.

The company explains that it has extended the range of colours it can manufacture with the addition of 1,750 new shades from the NCS system. This is in addition to more than 1,000 other colours matched to UK and International standards, all of which are immediately available for despatch.

These products are available not only from the Firwood national distribution centre in Bolton but also from their regional depots in Sheffield and West Bromwich.

The NCS-Natural Colour System is used on licence from the Scandinavian Colour Institute, AB, Stockholm, Sweden. The company will use the new system for its ranges of fast drying gloss paints, stoving paint, polyurethane gloss, two pack acrylics and acid and alkali resistant chlorinated rubber paints. These were previously only available in the much more limited British Standard and RAL shade cards.

The full range of shades is said to be available lead free. All colours have been matched without the use of lead chromate pigments. This new development also includes on-the-spot matching of specialist shades not on currently recognised shade cards.
