Available free of charge, the new Draeger Chip Measurement System (CMS) 172-page Handbook describes the technical capabilities of the CMS gas and vapour monitoring unit. Produced by Draeger, it clarifies the different measurements that can be performed by the unit's plug-in chemical sensors (known as chips) and explains how measurements should be carried out. The accuracy and reliability of the measurement procedure is also detailed together with in-depth technical data on each of the different chips. A section on portable gas detection instrumentation is also included.

Draeger informs us that the handheld CMS unit has been specifically developed to ensure accurate, reliable spot measurements of gas and vapour concentrations with minimal user training. Combining intelligent operation with straightforward user instructions, it provides an immediate, true digital readout without the need for further evaluation.

Believed to be ideal for use throughout industry, the CMS comprises an analyser which measures and evaluates the concentration, and a variety of plug-in chemical sensors. Featuring a back-lit, multi-lingual LCD display and a menu-driven user interface, the analyser is supplied pre-configured for automatic operation. An analyser self-check is performed on system start up and, as soon as a chip is inserted, a chip integrity test is carried out.

Each chip carries a barcode which, when decoded by the analyser, provides the parameters for the measurement evaluation such as the gas type and measurement range. Before carrying out a measurement, the system also allows the user to select the way in which data are stored.
