3D Systems Inc. Ltd is launching a new Cibatool high temperature resin for stereolithography applications. The new resin has been specifically developed to offer what is believed to be excellent part quality, high levels of performance and through-put under extreme testing conditions.

The new resin, called Cibatool SL 5530HT, has been developed to withstand temperatures in excess of 200°C, which is twice the heat resistance offered by competing resins.

According to 3D the excellent thermal performance enables the new SL 5530HT resin to be used in water, steam and automotive solvents. It is also thought to be ideal for functional testing under real operating conditions. These include automotive under-hood testing, wind tunnel testing, vacuum formed tooling and HVAC component testing, plus a variety of other high temperature applications.

In particular, in applications such as automotive testing, the claimed combination of excellent optical clarity and heat resistance offered by the new resin allows users to view complex internal passages and enables the resin to be used for operations such as flow visualisation and lighting fixture testing.

It is also stated that the accuracy of build achievable with the SL 5530HT resin ensures that the components produced mirror the exact dimensions of the required end-use part.

The SL 5530HT has been developed jointly with Ciba Speciality Chemicals under a partnership agreement for the exclusive use of 3D Systems. The high temperature resin is designed for use with the full range of the company's SLA stereolithography machines that encompass the 250, 3500, 5000 and 7000 models.
