L. Blaine Boswell, PPG Industries' vice president of public affairs retired on 31 March after more than 32 years with the company.

Assuming responsibility for internal and external communication is Benjamin R. Fisher Jr, director, corporate marketing, who was elected vice president, corporate marketing and communications.

Jeffrey R. Gilbert, 58, vice president, government affairs, will be in charge of the company's relations with elected officials and regulators. In addition, Jeffrey will be executive director of the PPG Industries Foundation.

It is also reported that David E. Sharick, PPG Industries' director of corporate development, has been elected vice president. Aziz S. Giga, director of strategic planning, also was elected vice president, reporting to Sharick.

David joined the company as internal audit manager in 1985 and was named manager, financial accounting, in 1986. He moved to glass and fiber glass in 1990, advancing through a series of financial assignments until he was appointed controller for those businesses in 1994. He assumed controller responsibilities for PPG's chemicals businesses as well in 1999. David became corporate development director last year.

Aziz began his PPG career in 1977 as a chemicals strategic planning analyst. He was named manager of strategic planning, chemicals, in 1978. Aziz became director of corporate planning in 1988 and assistant treasurer, global finance, in 1992. He was named controller and director of new business development, chemicals, in 1995 and became strategic planning director in 1997.
