ProMinent Fluid Controls (UK) Ltd has added a range of air operated booster pumps to its comprehensive range of precision dosing pumps. The new double diaphragm Duodos pumps are powered by compressed air which means that no electrical power is required. These pumps are stated to be capable of dry running and are self priming and have a flow rate which is proportional to the air pressure applied (Plate 2).

Duodos pumps are believed to be ideally suited to pumping abrasive, viscous, shear- sensitive and gaseous media, and require no relief valves. The pumps are said to simply stop if the back pressure gets too high and start again when the pressure drops. A low-maintenance, oil-free air system gives extremely reliable operation with guaranteed restart.

Duodos pumps with polypropylene pump bodies and Santoprene diaphragms and valves will reportedly operate over a temperature range of +4 to +65°C, whilst those with PVDF pump bodies and PTFE diaphragms and valves for pumping aggressive fluids are reported to withstand temperatures from −13 to +93°C. Fluids with viscosities up to 2,100 mPas can be pumped.

Four pump sizes are available, offering maximum flow rates between 900 and 10,200 l/h at 7 bar operating pressure.
