New effect pigment technology from Engelhard helps formulators of paints and coatings create powder coatings that achieve the desirable look of liquid coatings. Engelhard Cyclo™ Sparkle Silver pigment is a mica-based effect pigment designed specifically to work with powder coatings, which are used for appliances, automotive products, architecture and building applications, and many other products.
This patented pigment is engineered to improve application properties and offer new styling opportunities for powder coaters. Because the pigment reduces the potential buildup of pearl pigment on spray gun tips, Cyclo Sparkle Silver allows formulators to raise the amount of pearl in the coating formulation. This offers more flexibility to formulators attempting to match the appearance of liquid coatings, which typically contain higher levels of pearl pigments.
Cyclo Sparkle Silver pigment is incorporated into formulations by dry blending under typical conditions used in the powder coating industry. These attributes result in better application properties. When used in this process, Cyclo Sparkle Silver more easily accepts and retains electrostatic charge and shows a larger operating window and more consistent color appearance over the range of gun voltage settings.
Interior and exterior applications for Cyclo Sparkle Silver pigment include automotive finishes, exterior building panels, lawn and garden furniture, and interior furniture. The pigment is compatible with a variety of resin systems, such as Polyester/TGIC-free, Polyester/TGIC, epoxy or hybrid.
