DyStar offers the widest selection of dyes and pigments for the coloration of organic cotton textiles

Growing consumer interest in organic products has prompted an increasing number of textile brands and retailers to develop and market lines of organic cotton textiles. Under its Econfidence programme DyStar has cooperated with organisations like the Institute for Market Ecology (www.IMO.ch) which has been instrumental in developing and implementing the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and with Control Union Certifications (www.controlunion. com), which licenses the Skal International Standard for Sustainable Textile Production, to get dyes and pigments approved for use on organic textiles.

DyStar was one of the first companies to have its textile colorants approved for use with the GOTS standard and now has a comprehensive list of products including Sirius® direct dyes, Indanthren® vat dyes, Levafix® Remazol® and Procion® reactive dyes, Imperon® pigments and DyStar Indigo Solution 40 per cent that qualify for the GOTS standard.

“Although organic cotton is still only a niche within the global cotton market it has gained an extremely high profile with retailers and consumers in Europe over the past 12 months” says Dr John Easton, of DyStar's Textile Services Marketing Unit.

“DyStar has the expert knowledge needed to help its customers understand the requirements of organic cotton textile standards and can recommend appropriate dye combinations from its extensive range of approved products. At the same time, we are helping retailers and brands understand the shade and fastness limitations which can arise when conforming to organic cotton textile standards so that they can make informed decisions about the sourcing and marketing of organic cotton textiles to meet their customers' requirements”.
