TriStar Plastics expands surface modification capabilities with Parylene coating services

Article Type: Industry news From: Pigment & Resin Technology, Volume 38, Issue 4

TriStar Plastics Corp., a leader in engineered plastics solutions, today expanded its surface modification capabilities with its new TriStar Parylene coating services, a conformal coating service that is ideal for high-end electronics, electrical components and medical device applications. TriStar will showcase its new Parylene in addition to its full suite of plastics solutions this week at the Pacific Design Show, Anaheim Convention Center, February 10-12, 2009, Booth no. 3469.

“We are seeing increased demand for our Parylene capabilities, particularly in the medical device industry,” said Richard Cedrone, CEO of TriStar Plastics. “Parylene is a natural complement to our other surface modification capabilities. It gives our customers a conformal coating option for products that require pin-hold free, extremely thin insulative coatings or low friction surfaces for medical plastics and elastomers. TriStar is working on enhancements of current Parylene chemistries to offer even more options to our customers.”

TriStar Parylene

The new TriStar Parylene service is one of several coating processes available from TriStar’s Surface Modification Division. Available in several grades as a conformal coating, TriStar Parylene service meets several military and industrial specifications where dielectric or thermal coatings are required for high-end electronic and electrical components. Additionally, TriStar Parylene meets the strictest requirements under FDA and USPVI coatings for medical devices. Other industrial applications include low friction, abrasion resistant coatings for elastomeric seals, insulation for magnets and motor cores.

Other TriStar solutions include

TriStar Ultracomp composite bearings are versatile, durable, and customizable for the toughest operating environments – from wet-to-dry, high-load or low-speed and others. Self-lubricating and easy to machine, TriStar Ultracomp has exceptional resistance to vibration and impact with compressive strength of up to 54,000 psi. TriStar Ultracomp is built from synthetic resins and reinforcing fibers and excels in linear, oscillating, and rotary applications.

TriStar CJ composite bearings are ideal for applications where long wear and low maintenance are critical including agriculture, automotive, construction, marine, railroad, and material handling equipment. With high-load capacity similar to bronze, powdered metal, and steel, CJ bearings can extend the operating life of machinery without the added expense of regular lubrication. TriStar CJ bearings feature high-shock load, self-lubricating design, temperature and chemical resistance, and low weight/high strength.

From enhancing cell culture trays to bonding dissimilar materials, TriStar Surface Modification is ideal for tackling the most challenging surface issues. Its unique solutions include dry and environmentally friendly techniques to modify the surface of polymers, elastomers, and films in order to dramatically increase the bond strength of adhesives, paint, markings, or specialty coatings. TriStar offers plasma, corona, UV, or chemical treatment services as well as the required equipment manufacturing.

TriStar excels in Custom Plastic Fabrication from prototype to production. With its own in-house fabrication facility hosting the latest in CNC machinery, TriStar has the right machine tool for any job – from small-diameter screw machines to large-diameter turning centers and large-capacity milling. All of our machinists and quality control technicians are highly skilled in plastics machinery.
