First joint call for transnational projects now open

M-era.Net, a European network of public funding organisations and funding programmes in materials science and engineering, is pleased to announce the first joint call for transnational projects. The call opens on 20 September 2012 and will invest an estimated total of €30 million.

M-era.Net’s first joint call will involve 31 funding organizations, representing 23 European countries and with international involvement from Taiwan. Funding will be offered to innovative projects within five themes: integrated computational materials engineering (ICME); secondary raw materials; design of new Interfaces, surfaces and coatings; hybrid composites; and materials for energy systems.

M-era.Net’s first joint call will be a two step application procedure opening on 20 September 2012. The deadline for electronic submission of proposals is 27 November 2012. A detailed description of the topical fields, together with the guide for applicants, the application procedure, and the list of participating countries/regions, are now available on the M-era.Net web site: www.m-era.net/call2012

Project Co-ordinator, Dr Roland Brandenburg explains, “The primary aim of M-era.Net is to support projects in the materials science and engineering space to create a stronger innovation chain across Europe and enhance the competitiveness of European industry. The annual joint calls and other joint activities will encourage key players as well as newcomers in transnational projects and SMEs to develop pan-European partnerships, to access previously inaccessible new markets and to create a new innovation orientated economy.”

M-era.Net aims to enable easy access to collaboration between leading research partners and industry across and also outside Europe and create a powerful network to tackle European global challenges. This increased interdisciplinary cooperation and exploitation of European and international roadmaps will create new dynamism in the field of material science and engineering whilst stimulating the generation of leading knowledge along the innovation chain.

M-era.Net was launched in February 2012 and, over four years, will mobilise €150 million of funding across Europe. The funding is expected to support 200 projects in the materials and engineering space, creating a stronger European RTD community, whilst supporting the European economy.

Between 2012 and 2016, M-era.Net will provide the European RTD community with access to world leading knowledge through an innovative and flexible ERA-NET across 25 European countries. To achieve this goal, they will offer annual transnational calls for collaborative projects enhancing the competitiveness of European industry.
