Commentaries on the Second International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry
During May 2006 the 2nd International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry organized by Norman Denzin and his colleagues took place at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
The articles that follow present a range of commentaries regarding the congress which focus upon the authors' views of the key challenges and issues that currently face qualitative researchers.
The commentaries begin with Norman Denzin outlining the reasons for convening such an event, and the key issues faced by qualitative researchers around the globe. Mark Learmonth and Michael Humphries then present an evaluation of the experience of the conference from the perspective of academics working in the business and management field. Linda Leibenberg then presents a viewpoint from an alternative disciplinary perspective, outlining a key concern regarding the distinctions between participants and researchers in the qualitative research process. The final commentary by Bill Lee provides a discussion of the only symposium in the conference devoted to research in the field of business and management.
