2010Small Business Conference
10 February, Arlington, VA, USA
In 2007, ACT-IAC created the Small Business Conference (SBC) to address the unique needs of small businesses in the government IT marketplace. The objectives of that first conference were to:
- •
address issues unique to small businesses in the government IT marketplace;
- •
assist small businesses in understanding how to succeed in the government marketplace;
- •
promote understanding and relationships between small and large companies in the government IT marketplace; and
- •
demonstrate and recognize the value of small businesses.
The Small Business Conference proved to be so popular that it has become an annual event addressing the same objectives as the first one. The SBC has grown to include exhibits by companies and government agencies interested in serving or building relationships with small businesses. The Small Business Conference is open to ACT-IAC members and non-members.

HRN Europe – Performance and the next wave in the war for talent
23-24 February, Vienna, Austria
The number of employees that are highly disengaged has doubled since the beginning of 2008. Our research efforts have focused on bridging the gaps – how to retain high performers, manage out low performers, and improve the productivity of the broader workforce. All too often the power structure of the company does not reflect the leadership development system and performance is “Darwinian” in selection. Business leaders keep saying yes to impossible ideas and HR and OD professionals inherit lots of hardship! Sound familiar?
Out of 200 Group HR leaders we surveyed during the summer, “asking for the top 3 agenda items for the next 12-24 months – talent was the only agenda item with a 100 percent strike rate. Those companies (32 percent of which had annual revenues of 10 billion Euro’s or more) have highlighted a growing sense that there will be a second “war for talent” and somewhat more severe than “Part One” as skills shortages remain, and those shortages will only continue to become more acute as companies begin to return to growth.
