William Finnie has an undergraduate degree in computers and applied mathematics from Washington University in St Louis, MO, USA and a PhD in operations research from Wharton. Directing corporate strategic planning in 1985-1991 was one of many high points in a 26 year career at Anheuser-Busch.
He has helped 70 organizations develop and implement business strategies since leaving A-B in 1991. Bill is currently a managing director in the Business Consulting Group of Grace Advisors, one of the St Louis region's largest professional service firms.
John Wiley published his book, Hands-On Strategy: The Guide to Crafting Your Company's Future, in 1994. Grace Advisors published the second edition in 2000. He was editor-in-chief of Strategy & Leadership magazine in 1995-1996 and has been a contributing editor since then. His S&L articles include interviews with Russell Ackoff, Gary Hamel, John Kotter, C.K. Prahalad and Frederick Reichheld, and two non-interview articles. Since 1991, he has written over 100 "Marketing Trends" columns in the St Louis Business Journal.
Bill is an adjunct professor at Washington University, where he has taught marketing strategy and business strategy to 2nd year MBAs for the last 24 years.
