CMM builder, the LK Group, announces deal with Schroder Ventures

LK Group, a world leading developer, designer and builder of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), has been sold to Schroder Ventures, one of Britain's largest venture capital firms. LK management believe the sale will help the group exploit fully its recent technological and marketing initiatives in the manufacturing measurement sector as well as bolstering LK's position worldwide.
From its headquarters near Derby, UK and from its operations throughout the world, LK is riding a strong wave of new product introductions and has experienced double-digit growth over the last five years through increased sales of its range of measurement products.
New technology which LK has brought recently to market includes ULTRA, a high accuracy CMM, offering submicron repeatability, and the LY-90 range of layout style CMMs targeted at the European and North American automotive and aerospace industries. CAMIO, LK's CAD interfacing software, was introduced in 1997 and has rapidly become established as a leader in the field.
"The strength and resources of Schroder Ventures, which manages over $190 billion in assets, will help us to continue our aggressive programme of new product development", said LK managing director, Dr George Bartholomew. "It will also strengthen our ability to formulate long-standing partnerships, based on unparalleled levels of technology and service." Dr Bartholomew also stressed that operational responsibility for the new LK Group will rest wholly with LK's existing management.
