Leuze Electronic buys specialist sensor manufacturer

Keywords Sensors, Germany

Leuze Electronic, a leading manufacturer of optoelectronic sensors, barcode identification systems, optical data transmission and optosensory systems for machine guarding, has taken over the Lampertheim-based (German) company Meltec, a specialist sensor manufacturer.

John Longcroft, Director of Leuze's UK operation is delighted with the acquisition and comments "The addition of the Meltec products to our extensive sensor portfolio puts Leuze in a much stronger position to provide advice and support to an increasing number of specialist market sectors. The Meltec sensor products will be of specific interest to the pharmaceutical industry as it includes pharma-code readers with a new design of scanning head and LED illumination, a colour ring scanner and a labelcontrol system. As more information becomes available on new developments this will be released into the UK."

A significant aspect of the take-over has been the retention of Meltec's design know how. This immediately enhances the field of competence and its market position in a number of important sectors including the pharmaceutical industry.
