New flowmeter cleans up

Keyword: Flowmeters

As a response to customer requests ABLE have developed a new version of their clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters, the CIPOptimiser, which is designed specifically for Clean In Place (CIP) applications. The use of non-contact flow measurement technology is particularly desirable in sanitary applications, as it does not introduce new crevices into a system, upon which bacteria may grow (Plate 9).

(CIP) is a method used to "automatically" clean pipes and process equipment without the time and labor requirement of manually dismantling equipment components. Long- term CIP proves less expensive and more consistent than conventional manual cleaning methods. The CIPOptimiser is the only available flowmeter specifically designed for clean in place applications. CIPOptimiser utilises unique advanced ultrasonic techniques allowing accurate measurement of cleaning solution right throughout the cycle, even at the end when entrained particulate can cause problems for conventional devices. Unique liquid identification capabilities provide instant verification of the product currently flowing. This is valuable for general flowmetering in multiproduct liens as the operator can accurately determine when the desired product has begun to flow and calculate batches of product accordingly. In CIP systems on sanitary applications this function indicates when the cleaning solution has been flushed from the system.

The unique operating principle ensures that not only is the CIPOptimiser suitable for use on virtually any size pipe, but that it also suitable for use with any liquid from caustic solutions to hot and pure water. In addition this also has the benefit of allowing the unit to operate over a wide range of flowrates and process conditions.

Portable and dedicated variants are available. Both devices have huge datalogging capability, which allow information to be transferred to a PC for analysis. The battery powered portable unit is suitable for the most arduous environments and has a rugged IP68 (submersible) housing.

The CIPOptimiser provides peace of mind for all sanitary, pharmaceutical, diary, food and beverage applications. In fact the CIPOptimser has relevant approvals, including hazardous area, for use on a any multiproduct line application. The CIPOptimiser may also be used for any other application where intrusion into pipework is not desirable.
