Keywords: Patents, Aerospace industry, Japan

An object of this patent is to resolve the numerous problems exhibited by conventional wind turbulence detection devices and provide a measurement system capable of measuring wind turbulence in three-dimensions.

The system of the present invention measures the speed of remote three-dimensional airflow by mounting a laser wind speed indicator utilizing the Doppler effect on an aircraft, or light radar (LIDAR). The laser light is scanned in a conical shape and received scattered light from wind turbulence regions in front of the aircraft, is measured. When measured airflow information is communicated to the pilot, a turbulence position is displayed as the time that elapses before the turbulence is encountered instead of a distance.
